Glen Alpine
The town was originally called “Turkey Tail” by
railroad workers because of a tree located near the railroad was shaped
like a turkey tail. In 1876 the name was changed to Sigmundsburg after
Edmund Sigmun the co-founder of a mill that was built in the town.
The Glen Alpine Hotel was built not far from Sigmundsburg. This was a
popular vacation spot so the town’s name was changed to Glen Alpine in
1883. Today, the town boasts a population of over 1,100 individuals and
growing. Visit
