Welcome

It is a pleasure to welcome you to what may be your initial introduction to the magnificence of Burke County. Situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in western North Carolina, Burke County welcomes individuals of all ages who are looking for that perfect place to raise a family or seeking a charming and progressive community where they can fill out the golden years of life. Many who reside in Burke County found it almost by accident. Driving east to the Atlantic coast or west to the mountains on Interstate 40 there was some alluring power that tempted them to venture off the highway to be engulfed in the splendor of the region.

We hope to unfold for you what we in Burke County wake to each morning, encounter daily in our lives, and retire to after an exciting and event filled day.

There is so much that is positive to express about Burke County that it is hard to know where to start. For nature lovers, the scenery in the area is magnificent. It ranges from lofty, tree covered mountains engraved with hiking trails and cold streams that are filled with native and stocked trout to the clean clear waters of Lake James that provides over 6,500 acres of opportunities for fishing, camping, swimming, boating and recreation.

The arts abound in Burke County’s communities. You can tap your toes and sing along to the musical entertainment that takes place on Friday evenings in the spring and summer months in downtown Morganton and Valdese. Festivals, with a limitless number of craft and food booths, are held in nearly every community in Burke County throughout the summer, fall, and at holiday time.

Single and multi-family housing of all styles and price ranges are available for raising families. Educational opportunities range from pre-K to graduate studies in both public and private institutions. Specialty and department stores are scattered throughout the area to meet every shopper’s needs.
