educational progress in Burke County by strengthening the liaisons with
the Burke County Public Schools, Western Piedmont Community College, and
state and private educational institutions. It fosters cooperative
programs between business, industry and education so students will be
better prepared for work experiences after graduation from high school,
technical training institutions and college. It serves as a vital link
between local educational systems and local business. It encourages
business leaders to participate in the classroom by allowing employees
to participate in school activities and tutor students with special
needs. This committee sponsors the Annual New Teacher Dinner that
welcomes first year teachers to Burke County.
Golf Outing Committee – Members of this committee coordinate the
annual golf outing at a local golf course. This event provides members

associates. Committee members obtain tee/green sponsors, door prizes and
determine the “games” and activities that help add to the enjoyment of
the event.

for monitoring, evaluating and helping to formulate legislative issues,
holds forums with local, state, and national governmental officials,

and makes recommendations to the Chamber Board for endorsements. It
helps to develop policy on issues, legislation, regulations and other
governmental actions that affect the membership and the community. It
works with the other Unifour Chambers to establish common legislative
goals that will benefit the region. It sponsors candidate forums for N.
C. Senate, N. C. House of Representatives, school board, county
commission, sheriff and clerk of court elections. It also organizes
legislative trips to Raleigh.

the individual who is named the Officer of the Year.

organization that shares contacts, information, and business leads with
other members of the group. It meets monthly to exchange referrals.
Leadership Burke Committee – Organizes and sponsors the annual
Leadership Burke programs for community business leaders and teachers
employed by schools in Burke County. These programs prepare individuals

volunteer positions within their communities. Teachers share the
valuable information they learn with their students in their classrooms.

planned growth and quality housing development in Burke County to meet
the needs of current and future residents. The committee works with
builders, financial institutions, utility companies, governmental
entities, investors and others to study and recommend solutions for

on issues that affect residential growth and development.
Public Relations Committee – Members of this active committee
assist with the positive promotion of the Chamber to the membership and
the community through all forms of the media including print, radio, and
television. Members participate in the development of quality of life
publications, membership development materials and Chamber and community
information that will be available to promote the area in print and on
the Web.
Retirement Exploration Committee - This new committee of the
Chamber explores avenues to entice the new “baby boomers” to evaluate
our area and to relocate as retirees in one of our vibrant
neighborhoods. Members of the committee represent real estate, travel
and tourism, media, the legal profession, assisted living, government
and education.
